World Famous In San Francisco

There's a nice review of The Passionistas show at Trans Am over on the deli (shhhh!). I missed the show, but I've scored some photos:

Those boys (and gal) know their audience. I did actually make an appearance at the club, but after the bands and the drag queens and the general faggotry. Even though it was late (by San Francisco standards that is) the gays still seemed to be out -- so it seems I wasn't out past the general buggery. There was a pretty good dj downstairs playing some standard eighties fare (siouxie and the like) but I heard some Opal and that was cool. Upstairs was this other DJ and his fall out boy record collection -- I don't really know what that could have been about, some kind of ironic fraternity boy worship? -- and I needed to get away from that fast but Myles and I were asked to pose for gay.com. Completely absurd, we can't wait to see what that looks like!

Not that this blog isn't awesome, but sometimes I think my posts could provide more insight rather than just vomiting up first impressions for (poor?) comedic effect. This blog makes me laugh fairly consistently. The posts may seem ironic (blue oyster cult, good times, pictures of cute cats) but he always talks about his kids and parenting skills and its pretty sweet. Besides, who doesn't like B.O.C., good times, and cute cats? This dude may be a regular poster to the sf indie list, but I don't hold that against him.

A new blog by the drummer of Mon Cousin Belge about being over the bear scene in San Francisco. I think, its what he wrote about in his first post. And I think he's right. The bear 'movement' is about rebelling against the gay uniform (muscled, blond on top, hairless everywhere else, following relentlessly bad fashion trends) and being more comfortable in your own skin. This should be awesome, I'm against any scene's uniform but these guys have ended up just like the gays they hated except in winter clothing (round belly, no hair on top, hair everywhere else, and anything that matches worker boots). Way to get it all wrong fatties!

I found this blog this morning when I was trying to figure out how much the Wooden Shjps show is tonight. It caught my eye because its named after an obscure art damaged British band from the seventies who do an excellent drums and vocals only cover of the Television Personalities' "Part Time Punks". It looks like lots of informative posts about music on the fringe, past and present.

We never see any of you out at shows! Are you really that busy? Too shy to say hi? Or Life in the city has you so busy you forget when stuff is happening? Are we too wordy?

If you're forgetful, or don't like to read, our friend Lauren G can help you out! Well, he's actually listened to the music on their myspace and liked it. O RLY? I'm still not sold, but if they do more songs that sound like early bangles then maybe! Keep trying ladies!

We were there. (Some of) The Passionistas were there. Cobain in a coma was there (by default, but it counts). Were you there? More to come, but fyi The Mission Creek Music Festival is in full swing ladies.

What do you mean you have to work in the morning?

We braved the rain on Thursday and went to tubesteak, it was fun. Super fun even! There were many wonderous things:

• DJ Bus Station John did his thing
  
• a sixty seven year old man showed up and showed all those kids how to dance; then he hit on us!
  
• the dance floor was packed -- we don't see that enough.
  
• mass exodus from the dance floor -- maybe it was only a rumour that the guy in the corner had coke. (ok, i made that up)

It's that time of year again. Wow the 11th Annual Mission Creek Music Festival. We're impressed, 11 years old, that's almost legal!

San Francisco needs this festival, we've been scouring the listings as of late and it's been pretty grim.

Which popular SF drummer has a hemmorhoid that won't go away? Seems all the long hours driving to gigs and sitting on the drum stool have taken their toll.

Which local SF music festival asked bands not to book any other gigs the month of May only to not come through with shows for all the bands they asked this of? Some of the bands left out in the cold turned down numerous gigs and are cursing said festival.

Which SF venue desperately needs a new P.A.?
